About this place -

Bhedaghat is a town in Jabalpur district in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. Located at 23.12 degree latitude and 79.81 degree longitude, this place is 20 km from Jabalpur city. River Narmada flows through this place cutting across marble rocks and creating various rock formations. The volcanic seams are visible in these rocks.

This place is popular for three main things; the Dhuandhar Falls, Marble Rocks, and the Chaunsath Yogini temple which are all within a three km radius.

Things to do

The various places are listed here alphabetically:

Chausath Yogini Temple

This is the temple of sixty four yoginis; a yogini is a female yoga mystic. These temples were built in the 10 century during Kalachuri Empire and are made of coarse granite. Lord Shiva temple is situated in the middle of the complex. According to the folklores, the temple has a secret passage connected with the palace of Gond Queen Durgavati.

Dhuandhar Falls

These falls are located on River Narmada and are 10 meter high. The river cuts across the marble rocks and falls in the form of a waterfall called Dhuandhar falls. This fall creates a mist and thus the name, Dhuandhar, dhuan meaning smoke and dhar meaning flow. The sound of the falls can be heard from distant places.

Another famous place is Bandar Kodini, where rocks are set so close that monkeys can jump from one rock to another giving it the name, Bandar Kodini, where bandar means a monkey and kodini means to jump.

Marble Rocks

The Marble Rocks is an area of about three km cut into a gorge. Cable car and row boats are available to take tourists across the gorge. Recently, many flood lights have been installed, giving the area a new look.

There are boating facilities available all through the year except during rainy season. Night time boating on moon lit nights are very popular though early morning rides are equally favoured. The local boats men keep the tourists entertained with their stories.
